I have seen from the excellent refugee legal group forum that there were quite a few people taken off the charter flight on 19 September 2012. I, as a direct access immigration barrister who has had years of experience of last minute applications particularly in respect of charter flights to Sri Lanka among other places, was happy to see this. However, I have not seen official or semi official figures as to how many were removed and how many were taken off the flight. If anyone has any information in that regard I would be grateful if they would let me know. I believe the good work done by Freedom from Torture, formerly the Medical Foundation for the care of victims of torture played a part. Well done to them.
I understood that there was to a further charter flight on 20 September 2012 and perhaps a third, I do not have any other clients facing removal and would be happy to hear if these flights actually went ahead.
I hope that all those who returned were able to arrive safely at their homes, and pray that they are not targeted on or after their arrival for having come to the United Kingdom and claimed asylum.
If anyone has any further information about the returnees, please get in contact with me.
