I think the time has finally arrived where as a direct access immigration barrister I am in a position to look to start to be able to give something back, however small to start with. Ideally I would like to be in a position to recruit for chambers and if successful in making a pupillage training organisation then recruiting a couple of pupils. This however could be a little while away given that we are bedding now at present.
There is however a need for an intern, and it is to this end that I have decided to post this blog. The period of time will be flexible and expenses, travel etc will be paid. I have thought about what would be provided and what could be given. What we are able to offer will a mixture of:
1. Attendance at Court, I attend all the Courts in respect of immigration, including the First-Tier Tribunal, Upper Tribunal (for appeals and judicial review), Administrative Court and the Court of Appeal (where I am off to on Thursday). Whoever successfully applies will spend a fair proportion of time along with me in Court. I would hope that this will provide an excellent opportunity to see how a busy barrister gets on in Court;
2. Conferences and advice in chambers. As well as the practical side of Court work a lot of time is spent attending clients in respect of the cases. You will shadow me in dealing with clients both prior to and after the making of applications.
In return, you will be working within a tight neat team, assisting will all aspects of admin work and the preparation of bundles and applications.
I would hope that the period of time would both provide a detailed insight into the work carried out by a busy direct access immigration barrister and also useful experience to assist in any future application.
If you are interested please send me a copy of your CV and a short covering letter or email. Ideally you will have some law experience and some knowledge of immigration law. If you want any further information please do not hesitate to contact me. If this is a success I will be looking to extend this opportunity in order to provide as many opportunities as possible.
