As a direct access immigration barrister based in London I was heartened to see the new report issued by the UNHCR entitled “Working with men and boy survivors of sexual and gender-based violence in forced displacement.” This is a welcome publication about a particularly troubling subject. I have a number of cases, not a particularly large number, but enough to be worrying, where my client has been the victim of sexual violence and a man. In one of the last cases that I represented the client was particularly traumatised and only disclosed the abuse very late in the proceedings. While his claim ultimately succeeded, I would have been greatly assisted by this report.
