As a direct access immigration barrister based in London I have watched the situation go from clients not having to paying any fee for a Tribunal in accordance with the whole purpose of the Tribunal system being a more relaxed system than that of a formal Court structure.
As time has gone on in the immigration field in particular, but also in Employment, the fees have increased.
It might be seen that raising the fees for those who are vulnerable and not allowed to work is to essentially shut them out of the access to justice.
This is not the end of the road but requires some careful consideration as there are fee waivers available if one cannot genuinely pay for the fees.
If you find yourself in such a position please do not worry as I am happy to help with any fee waiver application and the evidence required.
The most important thing is not to ignore the application and not to ignore the appeal deadline. I will work with you as will my team and we will work as hard and late as possible to ensure that you do not miss the deadline. My team and I are often been working late into the night to ensure that appeals are properly lodged in time.
If you or your family are facing an appeal / application I would urge that you make it as soon as possible. If you are considering making an application /appeal I would stress that it is made as soon quickly and with professional representatives.
I and my team are happy in this time of change to arrange appointments late at night or indeed on Saturdays in order that you are not unduly affected by the changes that are being made, especially given that there are a lot of changes being made on a regular basis and with not a great deal of notice.
